If it’s designed to meet proper wind-load standards and anchored securely, a steel building can withstand winds from EF3 tornadoes (up to 165 mph). While no building is truly safe in a direct EF4 or EF5 hit, properly engineered metal structures perform well in the majority of tornadoes which are EF0 to EF2.
